Rain, Rain, Go Away!
It's amazing how much rain we've been getting. Yesterday I saw runoff and water over roads that I've never seen before. It just makes me so happy that I was able to get Sasha inside before she gave birth. So many animals seek shelter in storm drains, I just wonder how many kittens were drowned yesterday? Where do all the feral cats go to stay dry in this weather? All I know is that Sasha was happily nursing her new babies without worrying about being cold, wet or hungry. Safe, secure, content. She just lays in her nest box and takes care of her kittens with her eyes half closed and a smile on her face.
It's amazing how unsettled she was when she got here. I couldn't touch her for the first 48 hours. In fact, I have a couple of wounds that are healing from when she started liking me but then would flip her emotions on a dime and lash out. It was scary when I was pretty sure that she had turned the corner to friendly-town and she was climbing on me and rubbing on my face - I was really hoping that flip wasn't about to switch! But it never did flip back. She's going to make someone a very nice pet when this is all over. I just look at how happy she is now and remember that this is why I do this.
