Someone (you know who you are) complained that I hadn't blogged in a few days, so I thought that I better write something! Don't know where this is headed yet, so hold on to your seat, it could be a bumpy ride through my stream of consciousness. Wow, I wasn't sure how to spell that, took a guess and nailed it!
I learned a trick from my son who is a terrible speller - just type it into a search engine and if you spell it wrong it will guess at what you meant and pop up with the right spelling 99% of the time. The other 1% can be funny to see what the computer thought you meant! It bugs me that my kids can't spell. I am a very good speller (just a lousy typer). But speaking of search engines, please use www.goodsearch.com and choose Heartland Humane Society of Missouri as your charity and we'll get a penny everytime you make a search. Doesn't sound like much, but we've earned enough to pay for a spay package for a cat and that's money that I'll take any day! If more people used it, the money would add up faster!
I had a busy Heartland day today, especially since I needed to be cleaning house (as usual). It started when I took my car in for service this morning. I thought I'd get so much done being stuck at home all day, but I didn't! I spent the whole day on the computer. First I worked on the email newsletter until about noon but I got it sent out! If you want to be added to the list, email me at heartlandhumanesociety@yahoo.com and I'll add you to the list.
After I got that out, I worked on our CafePress site and ordered my Christmas cards. Visit that site at www.cafepress.com/heartlandhumane. I picked the one about finding a home by Christmas night. I can't believe how close we are to Christmas and how much I have left to do. My tree still isn't up and I have no idea what I'm getting for my kids. I'm also supposed to be cleaning the house for my brother-in-law's family to come visit for the first time in 3 years. But you want to hear about the cats.
Uno was so cute tonight. He had a canned-food mustache. Actually he had a spot of dried canned food on his nose and he couldn't figure out how to get it off. He kept trying to get his tongue up there and couldn't make it reach. He's going back to the vet on Monday for another look. I may have to take him to Union to see Dr. Frick, the chiropractic vet. He does fine with his canned food and nibbles at the dry food, but isn't putting weight on quite fast enough for me. I'm going to suggest x-rays on Monday so we can have some answers about what is or isn't wrong with him. I did strike gold tonight though. I found another box of a special Royal Canin food for extremely picky cats. I hoard it for special cases like Uno who don't want to eat. Cats have a hard time resisting this stuff!
I think I'm only bringing one extra cat to PetSmart tomorrow. Dickens is ready to come up. He's about 10-weeks-old and solid black. He is a little dickens, with a spunky personality. His mama is the blind kitty who also had a trip to the vet this week. She had some fluids because she had the runs with blood in it, so we're trying to figure out how to meet her medical needs without spending a lot of money or stressing her out. She is having more solid poop and less blood in it, but not much appetite. I'll have to keep an eye on her and hope it doesn't come down to giving her the icky tasting medicine. She's just starting to trust me, I don't want to have to be mean to her.
Harry is sleeping on my shoulder, he's so sweet and warm! Maybe I'll bring him to PetSmart tomorrow for pictures with Santa. But that's an awfully long day to be stuck up there. I wish I had more kitties to bring, but I'm pretty much down to the odd cases now. It's nice having fewer cats because I can spend more time with each one. Mary and I had a nice, long cuddle session tonight, same with Uno. My bottle babies (yes, I still have 2 of them from this summer) are so sweet and loving. I just wish that they'd grow. If they weren't so sickly it would be fun to breed a miniature cat, but these guys just aren't right. I need to look up how old they are, but they're not ready to be spayed yet. I want to say that they're about 4 months old and they're the size of a 10-week-old kitten. Ok, they're B-day is August 1st, so they're about 17-18 weeks old, wow, they're small! Ben & Jerry have another slight cold, I hope they're healthy next week!
I did put little Cuivre up at PetSmart this week. Poor baby must be so scared. I can't wait to see her tomorrow. I had hoped to get up there to see her today, but I didn't manage it. She was starting to settle in last time I left her up there, but then I went on vacation and didn't want her there while I was gone, so I brought her home and then it's been months before it was her turn again. I'm hoping to not take in any more for awhile and work on getting some of my harder to adopt ones out the door.
I don't have much more to say! We're doing pictures with Santa at PetSmart this weekend, so bring your pets up. I'll be there tomorrow. My dogs are happy, I bought them a good treat - knee bones with filling. They were so gross, but the dogs are happy. I have to decide if I want to watch TV and knit or read a book before bed - such choices! Too bad I can't knit and read (or type on my blog!) because the thing I'm knitting could be a Christmas present for my mom. That is if I get it done and it turns out.
