Adoptions 12-2-07
Santa came to PetSmart this weekend and brought all kinds of good luck with him. Lots of animals are sleeping in new beds as we speak! Thanks to our Santas - Steve and Aaron, who have been roped into volunteering through the women they love. Steve brings his daughter Ashley to clean cages once a week and was our skinny santa on Saturday. Aaron loves to play the part but just wishes that the suit wasn't so warm. That's him holding Amber, a cat that was adopted from me a couple of years ago. Her new mom has just started volunteering with us and made a huge difference in setting up our Trivia Night! We actually adopted out more cats on Sunday than Saturday for a change! We had a lucky 7 adoptions on Sunday!
The following animals are now cherished pets:
Dogs: Sugar, Doc, Phoebe, Summit, Vinnie
Cats: Torry, Simon, Glaze, Maze, Wendy, Rojo, Mango, Bruiser, Cheeks, Vegas, Tabitha, Autumn, Duey, Rose
Sugar: Cute little pup we pulled from a kill shelter, golden retriever mix that was a DB, meaning a dominant female, but we found the right home for her that can handle it and she's so sweet with people!
Doc: A big golden mix that we pulled from the same shelter. I have a picture of him a couple blogs ago. He was left at an abandoned house and was just a mess that needed the get rid of his undercoat. With some good grooming he looks like a new dog! The picture on our website looks like he's a sheep that needs shearing. He was very shy at first, but will keep blossoming in his new home!
Phoebe: She's listed as Phoebe/Bear because her name used to be Bear. Then her owners took her and her mate and their seven pups to the kill shelter. Since they were owner surrenders, they didn't have to stay there for a holding period, so they came to us right away! She's a wheaton terrier, and her babies look nothing like her. A little like their boston terrier father, but not really.
Summit: The first of the pups to be adopted, he was the biggest and looks like a mini-mastiff. I'd love to see pictures of these guys when they are full grown! Last weekend I spent an hour just carrying him around and cuddling him. Luckily he got adopted by someone who knows one of our volunteers, so we'll get regular updates!
Vinnie: The Boston terrier father found a home with someone that I knew 8 years ago! I had moved away and hadn't seen her since I've been back. I've seen her 4 times in the last month now! Vinnie went home on a trial run last week and he's behaving himself with their very old Boston/Pug mix so he gets to stay!
Torry: a beautiful little calico. She's the sister to a pair of white kittens that I have, but I split the litter with another foster mom, but they were all so sweet that I couldn't bear to part with all of them!
Simon: cute little black and white kitten
Glaze and Maze: this litter is so cute; they're getting older so they were getting passed over for the younger crowd, but someone finally noticed their beauty. They remind me of the look of a Turkish Van, mainly white with a few spots of color, especially around the ears and tail. Glaze's spots were orange, Maze's were black. They didn't go home together, but they got to go home!
Wendy: another little black and white kitten, adorable!
Rojo: I may have reported him last week, they did the paperwork last week, but picked him up this week. Very nice family!
Mango/Hoho: One of my foster kitties went home earlier in the week. She was adopted out as a kitten and returned for allergies. While I don't like having them come back, it can be interesting to see what those little kittens grow into! Compare her two pictures! It's hard to tell it's her except for that little beauty mark! Remember, you can click on the pictures to see them full size!
Bruiser & Cheeks: Two of Cricket's babies went home, but to different homes. Bruiser is a cute little black and white and Cheeks is a little tabby with white paws
Vegas: We were all happy/sad to see her go. She became one of the favorite cats among the volunteers. So sweet and snuggly and her back just made her unique. She has calcified disks in her back by her hips, so she walks funny, but has no problem running! She came in with a litter of kittens born on 7-7-07. The woman who took her in and found us has become a foster home! All of her babies have found homes too so she has a very lucky story! Great home that we all approved of!
Tabitha/Pebbles: She was an owner surrender. A young girl (18) got a kitten and went off to college. She suddenly had a change in living arrangements and couldn't take her cat with her. I took her in and discovered a major problem with her spine. So she had xrays and visits to a chiropractic vet that made all the difference. She was out of alignment and in pain, but not anymore! (A big plug for Dr. Ava Frick down in Union!) Her owner called me and got her life straightened out and wanted her back, so she got to go back with her mama this weekend! I called her Tabitha, her mom called her Pebbles, but my rule is if you scoop the poop you get to pick the name!
Autumn: my little feral tabby went home! She was so scared as a little 8-week-old kitten but now she's got a great family to live with. Grandma adopted a kitten from us a couple weeks ago and Autumn's new mommy has 3 other rescued cats. Two that are older and a recently rescued kitten who needed a friend! Lucky for Autumn that it was love at first sight! She had looked all Saturday and didn't see one she wanted and just walked into PetSmart and knew that Autumn was the one!
Duey: The cat so nice he's been adopted twice. He was adopted last weekend and returned. He just wasn't the right fit for the family that took him. So they're looking at Jack or Jill this week and Duey found a new home too. Hopefully we got it right this time!
Rose: Tabby kitten that has spent a couple months at PetSmart and is now 7 months old! She is such a sweetie. She has a small scar on one eye from an infection as a kitten but that just made her new mom feel sorry for her and pick her instead! She's also a dentist and may be my new dentist. Now to get brave enough to call....
Can you believe that these guys didn't find a home yet? Here are Dwight and Sprinkles waking up from a nap. I'm trying to place them together because they are so bonded!

We took Phoebe home this weekend. She is going good so far. I think she is missing her puppies though. She paces back and forth every once in a while. We have been trying to just sit and pet her to remind her that she is ok. She LOVES tennis balls, but can split one in half in about 2 min. I am going to need to find her some toys that are a bit more durable :) She has her vet check up and gets her stiches removed on Thursday night. Then it is off to the grommers for a bath and brushing. I will send some pictures in a couple of weeks of the NEW Phoebe.
Will be in touch.
