Thanks goes out to Mrs. Marling's 1st Grade Class at Fairmount Elementary! They had us come and talk to the class about what we do and we brought kittens for show and tell. The kids held a supply drive for us and today we went back with a dog for show and tell and collected the items. The students had a goal of collecting 24 items and they collected 67! That'll make a lot of happy dogs and cats. While we were there today, we had the kids make pipe-cleaner spiders for the cats to play with. Some kids got creative and made other shapes as well. The cats are already having a ball flipping the "spiders" in the air and acting like real predators. They are hoping to have us come back next year and we're looking forward to it!
Shakesville is one of the greatest blogs of all time. When I have time, I read it multiple times a day everyday to make sure I don't miss anything in case they update. One poster, named Space Cowboy, sometimes posts cat videos that I find hilarious. He posted this one Sunday with the title: Cheeky Cat Wins Argument and I have to admit, the video wouldn't be nearly as funny to me without his title.
This weekend at PetSmart we had 3 past adoptors stop in with donations! Special thanks to Sue, Angela and Jen for buying all that great stuff for us!
I occasionally babysit
my infant niece whenever my brother visits. I'm always proud of my boys whenever she comes because they're generally very well behaved and very sweet. Dewey loves her. It's like he knows she's a baby and he has to be extra gentle with her.
When she came to visit on Saturday, Dewey followed us around the entire house - room to room - just to be near her and when I needed to prepare lunch, he laid next to her while she watched Wonder pets. That's all he wanted to do all Saturday - just lay next to her. What a sweet, sweet boy.
I think the best part is the news anchor reading the note.
Nine Junior Girl Scouts from troop 4602 have completed all requirements needed to earn their Girl Scout Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Scout can receive. For their Bronze Award service project, the 5th grade Junior Scouts from Dardenne Elementary School, made fleece blankets to donate to the Heartland Humane Society. Angie Tollefson, President of the Heartland Humane Society said, “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the Girl Scouts of Troop 4602. These blankets will help enhance the lives of hundreds of pets while they wait for their forever homes. Our volunteers really appreciate the time and effort that they put into making them.”
The girls of Troop 4602 were presented with certificates and award pins by Jennifer Thomas, Neighborhood 5 Chairperson and Liz Mainord, Membership Development Manager with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri at the April 15th District 14, Neighborhood 5 Leader Meeting. The girls also presented the 122 blankets that they made to Juli Stevens, a representative for Tollefson who was unable to attend the awards ceremony. Bronze Award recipients are: Alyssa Drew, Cassandra Jordan, Emily Reedy, Jaime Ketterer, Stephanie Laws, Jasmine Amerin, Kendall Douglas, Rebekah Blatt, and Taylor Hausman. Their leader is Carol Robison.
Since Oliver, my big black cat, is declawed he has trouble jumping up
on the counter to get to his food bowl and needs to use the small
cabinet we keep Clyde's food and treats in to help him reach his own
food. The other day, Clyde was napping in front of his cabinet when
Oliver wanted food. Oliver got really close to Clyde's face, then
started his protestation meows. Clyde slowly opened his eyes and smugly
sat there because he didn't want to move. So for almost five minutes,
they were practically nose to nose with Ollie whining loudly. Dewey
decided to go check out what was going on in the kitchen and
immediately went into action to help Ollie get to his food. Clyde's
most beloved toy was sitting just outside of the kitchen. Dewey ran
over to it, stood over it, looked at Clyde - who perked up and looked
back at him - and then put his paw on it to claim it as his own. Clyde
jumped up and ran over to Dewey and then stood there and whined like a
baby because the cat was touching his toy. The minute Ollie was able to
jump onto the cabinet (so that he could then jump onto the counter),
Dewey pushed the toy away and walked away.
